how to find it:

Shadwell: leave the station and south towards the Highway - you can usually walk through the church grounds of St. George's in the East to get there. When you get to the highway you should see the pub just over the road, by Tobacco Dock. Tower Hill: leave the tube and (if it's open) go through the subway towards the Tower of London, turn left and walk along the path around the Tower's moat and through the subway under the approach road to Tower Bridge. Go up the steps and walk along the busy main road that skirts the warehouses and offices that are in St. Katharine's Dock - this is The Highway. Carry on along the highway for about 5-10 minutes and you'll see the pub on your right, just before you get to Tobacco Dock (just after the Saab dealers and Machine Mart).

picture of Old Rose
A long, long time ago, there were dozens of pubs around here serving the dockworkers in Wapping, but now the docks have been filled in and planted with dozens of brick apartment blocks, there are precious few pubs left around here. It seems that the new inhabitants are not the big drinkers of old. Fortunately, amongst the remaining few is the Old Rose - a decent, traditional local, serving good beer, cheap food and with good service. We often find that when you get these drinkers deserts, as Wapping has now become, that a lack of competition leads to complacency, but the Old Rose, thankfully, bucks this trend.
