From Russell Square, turn right out of the tube station, then next right. Walk along Guilford Street and past Great Ormond Street hospital. Lamb's Conduit Street is on your right, through Guilford Place. The Perseverance is on the right hand side, not far past the Lamb. From Holborn, leave by the side exit, and turn right up High Holborn. Cross the road and take the first left up Red Lion Street. Cross over Theobald's Road and carry straight on up into Lamb's Conduit Street. After a short while, you'll see the pub on your left hand side.

This fairly traditional-looking pub hasn't changed a great deal, and still works at catering for the arty and studenty-types who inhabit the area, and gets pretty packed of an evening. We remember there used to be a large blackboard listing the many ales that were on sale in a previous incarnation of this place, but that has sadly gone. The beer has, if anything got better, with convenient tasting notes in front of the real ale taps - a good sign they know what they're doing with it. They've also got the usual collection of euro lagers, Franziskaner Weissbeer and the black stuff which, when combined with their short but reasonably priced wine list and an emphasis on shooters and cocktails means that just about everyone should be catered for. The menu's not as gastro as it used to be, and they seem to be concentrating on good, reasonably priced food with good ingredients and we can't fault them for that, particularly in the current climate. The only criticism one might make of the place is the incredible noise which can emanate from the clientele and lots of hard surfaces for it to bounce off of. If you've popped in here to do the crossword or read an existential novel, wear ear defenders. Alternatively, if you can't take the noise, try the upstairs room - it was dead when we were last in.

Eating at The Perseverance... we last ate here on 20/08/2009
Excellent value food and pretty tasty with it. Best burger we've had for a while and the fish finger sandwich took us back... Superb chips, as well.

WHAT IS SMKEATS GUY TALKING ABOUT!!!!! UTTER NONSENSE!!!!
This pub is one of the true Gems of london. The New Management have really changed it for the better. Peroni on Draught? what a genius pub this is. The staff are friendly, polite and quick. The food is all home cooked and amazing. We had a table of 6 each with different meals and they were all there together and all tasted amazing. Get down there!

I went there a few of weeks ago. after being closed for a week for "refurbishment". It had reopened looking quite similar. I hadn't been in there much before because it was always crowded and the food expensive. The place had changed and it seemed for the worse. The real ales had been taken away and the food changed from gastro to cheap pub grub - which wouldn't be a bad thing but the salad with my sandwich was sandy, the staff seemed to be fumbling behind the bar and it was 1pm and the place was empty. I don't anticipate this to last long.
