From Dalston Kingsland train station, exit left and walk for about 10 minutes. Satchmo's is on your left. From Stoke Newington train station, exit left. Satchmo's will be about a 15-minute walk on your right. Buses 67, 76, 149 and 243 all sail right past its door.

In March 2007, we were full of hope for Satchmo's, the new jazz spot on the Stokey horizon. But oh dear - it seems it wasn't to be, as just last month, a grey-haired man in overalls was up a ladder, paint-tin balanced precariously over passing pedestrians, painting the words 'cocktails' and 'sports' onto the blackboard outside. The jazz is no more. In its place though, is, give or take a new rug or two, exactly the same pub, minus the jazz and with a telly on the wall showing any sport you like. So there's still the comfy sofas, still the local feel, and still a marked improvement on what was here in times past. We can't help but be worried how long this incarnation will last - is there really a need for cocktails in this part of Stokey? - but as it is, it's still a pleasant place to quaff a pint.
