how to find it:
It's an uphill, fairly steep, walk up from Belvedere station. Head south down Station Rd before crossing straight over into Picardy Rd. Walk up here for ten minutes. When you reach the main road (Erith Road), turn right and walk up to the next main junction: the pub is opposite. The 99 bus from Plumstead or Erith will drop you off adjacent.
An attractive Victorian building overlooking green space, the Eardley Arms has promise. A shame, then, that the pub's current incarnation fails to realise it. On entering the pub, you're met by a blue pool table squarely in the way. The rest of the pub's interior is pretty confused too: recent refits have added fake Tiffany lampshades, fruit machines and a tacky frame over the bar. Decorative quibbles aside, the Eardley doesn't deliver on the drink front (no real ale, mediocre Guinness) and the service was lackadaisical. Sport showing on several TVs dominated the pub on our visit, the air a mix of Sky gabble, awful background music and the locals' colourful language. Unless the Sunday meat raffle grabs you, we suggest patronising one of the other pubs nearby.
