picture of Teddington Arms
If you're looking for a pub that defines the paradoxical (or is it oxymoronic?) combination of modern and traditional, the Teddington Arms should be pretty near the top of your list of pubs to visit. It's a large pub, combining an excellent selection of ever-changing real ales, on hand pumps and from a couple of kegs at the back of the bar with outré décor and excellent service, The Teddington Arms really does have it all. The refurb may not be to everyone's taste, bold fluorescent wallpaper, a parquet-topped bar and the heavily embossed stainless steel ceiling has to be seen to be believed, but that doesn't detract from the ambience. The different styles of seating and standing area, let you pick the mood, form lounging to dining. And the beer is excellent, there's an ever-changing range of beers, including plenty from the not too-far-away Hogsback Brewery, the Rip Snorter was excellent. The menu is interesting too, there's a lot of seafood - including mussels of the day - and it's one of the first places we've come across that asks what your favourite dishes are, so they can be added to the menu. Unfortunately it was the wrong time of the day for us to try anything, but we'll time it better on our next visit. The refurb is still underway in the area off to the side of the pub, though it's almost finished, but the mix of locals and out-of-towners happily enjoying the drink and food demonstrates the Teddington Arms has come up with a winning combination. We'll be back for more.
