St Mary Cray: It's a 10-15 minute walk from the station, by way of Station Approach, Cray Avenue, Station Road, High Road St. Mary Cray and Main Road. The pub is at the junction of Main Road and Sandy Lane. Several bus routes from Orpington and Sidcup run along Sevenoaks Way, past the end of Main Road, a few minutes' walk away. The Paul's Cray Hill terminus of Bus R4 from Orpington is also fairly near to the pub.

picture of Bull Inn
A timbered inn dating back a few centuries, and with a great deal of character, the Old Bull Inn is one of the better pubs down the Cray Valley. There are two bars, three real ales on the hand pumps, a moderately adventurous food menu, and various lines of cigar sold at the bar. It's a relaxed and pleasurable place to be. The walls play host to brasses, old photos, and evidence of the pub's work for several charities. On a previous visit we had been - erm, bemused, and amused by the pride of place displayed on the wall of the gents - a cover of 'Razzle's Readers Wives', with the headline 'St. Paul's Cray Wives - Is Yours Inside?' - although by the time of our most recent visit this had been carefully stashed away somewhere. On that occasion, particularly, we appreciated the courteous, efficient service - the pub was really busy and all hands were on deck. This pub shows How It Should Be Done in the Cray Valley, as Isaak Babel might put it.

Eating at the Bull Inn ... we last ate here on 09/04/2007

Variations on a theme of fairly trad pub grub. Well presented, certainly, but perhaps just a little bit too expensive for what you get. Fair enough, all in all, though.
