picture of Bleeding Heart Tavern
This Adnam's house has kept its standards high over the years, and is a great place to try their range of beers. If you're looking for lager though, they only do Bitburger in the smaller continental glass - they won't pour you a pint due to its strength (4.8%!) - or bottles of Beck's and the like. That said, the wine list is pretty good, and potentially more of their customers are drinking wine or bubbly. It's a pretty reasonable place to go if some of your friends want a wine bar and some of them want a pub. The all-French staff perform as if they've been running the place for years and they're always polite and efficient. As a result, it's not a surprise that the place feels quite a lot like a continental establishment and the somewhat gastro menu reflects that, too. We can heartily recommend the lamb burger if you're feeling peckish, and the chips are superb! There's also breakfast, from 7.30 until 10.30 - and we'll be back to check this out at some point. It does get busy of an evening, with punters spilling out onto the pavement, but it quietens one most of the customers have commuted their weary way home.

Eating at TheBleeding Heart Tavern ... we last ate here on 9/8/2006

Good gastro-continental food sourced from organic and free-range suppliers at reasonable prices. Proximity to Smithfield doesn't hurt, and they open for breakfast from 7.30 until 10.30. Food is available most of the day, until 10.30pm.
