The Remarkable Restaurants group run pubs which usually get a good reception on Fancyapint? so we're happy to report their new effort tops them all. After being closed for a while, they were lucky to have taken over a building with a centuries-old history, but they nonetheless make the most of the opportunity - and who could blame them. We particularly liked the wintry nooks and crannies panelled in dark wood, which features a fantastic 17th century fireplace, rediscovered after being boarded up for years. None of it, however, feels twee or overbearing and for contrast there's also a bright and airy back room, its high ceilings tempered with a couple of art nouveau statues and a huge mural. Indeed, every aspect of the décor is well thought out and designed - as is the food, which was top notch. It was also nice to be served by people who actually seemed to be having a good time working - a rarity these days. This pub illustrates that when thought and time are put into a pub, the results speak for themselves. This is, hands down, the best pub in Acton or indeed the surrounding area.
