picture of Beehive
You can walk for miles in the sprawling 1930s suburbs of Enfield and not come across a pub. Then suddenly - like the W8 bus which trundles around the area - two magically appear. The Beehive, in this instance, is the more traditional of the two pubs hidden in this Bush Hill Park enclave. When we say 'traditional', we mean it isn't a trendy bar, or a gastropub, or an overtly corporate PubCo chain. Instead it's an attractive-looking local's pub, with a surprising choice of ales (Bass, London Pride and a brace of Green King choices) and a buzzing atmosphere. At least a third of the pub was dominated by football on our Sunday visit but it didn't seem to affect the eating only area we found seats in. During certain matches the place can fill almost exclusively with predominantly male football watching locals, but at other times this is a pretty good enough stop-off for a couple of pints and a bite to eat. To be honest, though, if you happen to be in the area, it's probably because you already live nearby.

Eating at The Beehive ... we last ate here on 18/01/2009

Large and reasonably priced pub grub food menu, served 'till late. A selection of burgers and a choice of fish & chips (place, cod, rock etc) stuck in our minds. The Sunday Lunch was pretty good, too, with a hearty amount on offer and some well cooked veg. Despite this, and despite proudly displaying the name of the supplying butcher above the bar, the meat was not the best quality we've ever had. The phrase 'school dinners' rattled around our heads, which is probably not what the owners were intending.
