From Edmonton Green train station, exit left and cross the road under the railway bridge. Once clear of the roundabout, keep walking north along the Hertford Road and the pub is on your right after about 8-10 minutes.
Some people have a somewhat negative impression of Lower Edmonton (we've heard it referred to as 'Shankville'), but as far as drinking goes, the King William IV has been a Fancyapint recommendation for the last couple of years. The German landlady expended significant effort to make this is a warm and inviting place, in an area where such things are in short supply. Sadly now that she has left, this pub has become a perfect example of how the owners can directly affect the atmosphere of a place. Our last visit left us witnessing the rapid decline of a once good pub. The décor is still nice, in a traditional pub kind of way, with patterned carpets and plenty of original wood. Now though, another footy screen has been installed and the furniture has been moved around to make it less cosy than before. The upstairs pool room is now out of bounds, food has stopped, complimentary newspapers have vanished and ale has been withdrawn. Unsurprisingly, the clientele are also changing - and not necessarily for the better; the relaxed atmosphere has vanished into the ether despite the chirpy service. As you may have guessed, this isn't a pub we can recommend anymore.
