picture of Royal Albert
In late 2006 the Paradise Bar, formerly on this site, was completely refurbished and the Royal Albert opened in its place. It quickly established itself as the kind of pub attuned to the area: an assortment of odd furniture, Belgian beer in the fridge, taxidermy in glass cases and mood music (a combination of style and substance that would be later matched in the same pub group's Tooting Tram and Social and Balham Bowls Club). The funky furnishings and friendly service at this one pull in the mix of young locals and students that you might expect round here. Recommending a place to meet up between Deptford and New Cross often induces a bout of chin-stroking and consternation; the Royal Albert certainly remedies that.
