This country-style pub really feels it is in the 'country', on the lovely Old Hill which runs through Chislehurst, the traditional style building looks very inviting as you ascend the hill, especially at night when it's lit up - there's nothing else around other than large houses with generous grounds. (That of course excludes the Thai restaurant that is attached, which is a very quaint little place and with pretty good food - we believe you can order from the pub, too.) At first this pub feels like a boring, quiet place: however on a recent visit as Saturday evening drew in, the place really livened up, it was actually quite a bubbly and pleasant place to be. The service and locals are friendly enough, even though you will feel like everyone knows each other apart from you, it won't put you off. We quite like it. If it had a choice of an ale/bitter or two and a choice of white wine, it might have got a three. The other let down though, is that the olde worlde feel is so genuine that the carpet doesn't look as if it's been replaced since
Napoleon last visited.
