The Approach Tavern has had its up and downs over the years, cycling between a dodgy local boozer and a quiet(ish) place for a pint and a chat. Over the past few weeks it seem to be on one of its downward cycles - the clientele is getting markedly dodgier, the service not as attentive and the atmosphere getting more foreboding. It's no longer the destination of choice for us in these parts, there are better experiences to be had not far away. On the plus side, the beer is still pretty decent with a range of (mostly Fuller's) hand-pulled beers plus a few continental beer's on tap - Czech beer being a speciality. Wine lovers are well catered for too and there's not a bad menu if you're feeling peckish. There's a beer garden at the back and a terrace at the front, replete with awnings and patio heaters and, this is the bit that the locals especially appear to love - sitting out front on a summer's evening shouting at their mates and having a fag. It's a shame really, we know there's a good pub in there, but it needs a bit of tweaking to get it back on track.
