Tufnell Park and Archway don't immediately spring to mind as homes for live music, but consider the Irish acts in the Holloway Road's pubs, the rock revivalism of the Dirty Water Club and the indie bands in the Archway Tavern. Add to the list The Hideaway. Midway along Junction Road, this bar offers up regular live music during the week (acoustic to electronica to jazz) with DJs at the weekend. The bands play in the basement, leaving a bijou bar on the ground floor if you've just come along for a couple of drinks. The bar makes great play of its cocktails and spirits, offering more choice on that front than they do choices on the pumps. The pizzas here are also heralded, and we'll make sure we sample them on our next visit. All the right ingredients are here, and given the demise of The Spitz (RIP) small venues are to be championed. However, our visit to the Hideaway was probably only a 2 pint experience - we'll endeavour to catch it again soon though, probably to take advantage of its late licence.
