Dickens, the East End, Mr. Pickwick, conjure images of darkest Victorian London, the ripper, abject poverty and all those other drama/docudrama clichés. What we actually have here is a pretty ordinary boozer of the old school (no gastro here, thankfully) - a decent, but average range of booze and all the other attributes we've come to expect of a normal pub - a refuelling stop rather than a destination.
