how to find it:
About a 5-ten minute walk from Rochester station along the High Street, then a left turn down College Yard. Ye Arrow is behind the King's Head, between the castle and cathedral. You could also walk here from Strood station, which is not much further away.
This is the back bar of a hotel (which also includes another pub), with a nice outdoor seating area, with lots of tables, with colourful sunshades, in probably the most attractive spot in Rochester, facing the glorious castle in one direction and the no less glorious cathedral in the other. The inside drinking area isn't huge, but does include one area (which, if denuded of its furniture, we reckon would make a grand dancefloor) filled with lots of little mini-armchairs arranged around small round tables. Empty, this section of the pub looks rather cosy, but might be a little cramped if or when it gets full. There's a good choice of beers, and a carvery that operates all-week round for food. When we visited, early on a weekday evening, there was a good mixture of locals, male and female, quite a few of whom appeared to be regulars. You could certainly do worse pubwise in Rochester than Ye Arrow.
