picture of Masons Arms
The Masons' Arms, which is located in a weatherboarded building that has been pumping up the pints for centuries, gets most things just about right. There are two bars, neither of them particularly large, both of which look, and feel, well-cared for and pubbish, with a selection of old books lining the shelves along one wall. Several real ales are available on hand pumps, including, but not restricted to, several of the Greene King range, which, being brewed just around the corner, seemed on good form. There's also a decent wine selection, and a moderately adventurous food menu. There's also a very fine, even elegant, courtyard which is the perfect place to while away a sunny afternoon (the pub dog definitely agrees). Only one word of warning: check the opening times, as it closes for much of the mid-afternoon on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
