Walthamstow lacks many gastropubs (there are, in fact, a total of 'none') and the Coppermill does nothing to redress this surprising fact. This is instead simply a good old-fashioned local, the likes of which are always a pleasure to stumble across. Despite being very popular indeed, service is sharp as a button and even the locals make a point of moving out of your way to allow better access to the bar. There's three Fuller's ales to choose from: the ESB had an odd chemical aftertaste on our visit, but the Chiswick was fine. One side of the pub was showing the footy, while the other showed the rugby (neither overpowered the other) and this probably explained the male-heavy clientele. Decor is old-school - a gantried bar is topped with various ornaments, while cornucopia of fishing related items festoon the walls, which considering its location next to the Lea Valley reservoirs makes sense. Perfect for a rejuvenating pint after a stroll around the nearby Walthamstow marshes or shopping at the market, this is also the best pub west of Hoe Street.
