picture of North Nineteen
North Nineteen is a charming, refurbished pub on the back streets off the Holloway Road. The post-war building is attractive enough and the decor considerate to the building: the two separate bars remain, while a back area with heavy flock wallpaper adds character. Stripped floorboards - the stock in trade of any refurb - give a light and airy but not unpleasant feeling. Being sandwiched between a cluster of council estates and Holloway's Victorian flatshareland, there was a genuinely (and surprisingly) mixed crowd. It helps that both the landlord and everyone else behind the bar are consummate hosts and clearly do their best to make this a welcoming pub. There's a tasty, home-made menu on offer, and on the drinks front they offer up to six ales, usually from smaller brewers. There is also an excellent selection of whiskeys to enjoy, which you can sup in the recently improved second bar, away from the football which can sometimes dominate proceedings in the main bar. Due to it's location we wonder if this place really receives the wider audience it deserves, but the residents of N19 have an excellent community local on their hands.

Eating at The North Nineteen ... we last ate here on 25/04/2010

Having eaten Sunday Lunch (just under £10) here more than once we can confirm that is is consistently excellent. The flavour of the lamb was spot on and the gravy absolutely superb. The Sticky Toffee pudding (£4.50) was also fantastic.

Lovely pub to find in the wilds off of northern Holloway road. 6-7 beers on tap and a true free house, the owners serve at the bar and they make it clear they're doing everything they can to provide a true pub atmosphere.
