The Rising sun was taken over relatively recently by the Abbeydale Brewery - in fact it's currently the only pub they own - and what a transformation they accomplished. Rescuing the old pub from dingy obscurity, the new pub is a lesson in how to do a great real-ale pub in the 21st century. There are twelve hand-pumps with an ever-changing range of very well-kept ales - naturally Abbeydale's own beers feature - but there are rare and wonderful ales from around the country - you could travel the UK in ale and not have to go any further than the bar here. Also on the pumps are more exotic drinks such as Timmerman's peche and Kingstone cider and if you don't fancy pumped drinks there's a good range of bottled beers, wines and spirits. But don't think this pub is just for the beer-bore - there's something here for everyone: pub food, with a carvery on Sunday's, board games, a book exchange, regular live music events, beer festivals the list goes on. The service is friendly and efficient, the decor understated and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. This is a great pub, if the Abbeydale brewery has plans to take over any more pubs in the near future, we sincerely hope it's going to be one near to us - cheers!
