On paper the Bull's Head should be good - with four real (Cask Marque) ales on the hand-pumps, a recently refurbished interior and a handsome, Northern, stone-built exterior this pub kicks things off very well, but somehow it lacks sparkle. The service is friendly, the place is clean, but the atmosphere is one of a well-run hotel bar, rather than a friendly local pub. Maybe it's the too-bright lighting, maybe it's the twinkling entertainment machines and the unblinking stare of the TVs, but this place lacks a certain something, that could make it a place you'd want to visit. We're not sure what the answer to this conundrum could be, which is a shame, as given what the pub has to start with, we feel this pub should be a whole lot more.
