picture of Betjeman Arms
The wonderfully restored St Pancras Station had a very public opening at the end of last year but it was only very recently that the Betjeman Arms opened for business. And on the impression of our recent visit, they should perhaps have waited a little bit longer... Situated on the upper level of the station, the Betjeman Arms is a rather upmarket station pub and restaurant. It may aspire to be a gastropub, and it certainly looks like it's ready to be, but they're not there yet. Oh yes, the place looks great, 3 different areas, a few tables and sofas around the bar area, a lovely tiled space next to the 'scullery' and a fancy schmancy dining area with fireplace and chandelier. However, what it doesn't have is gents loos and heating. Now the weather is improving it may not matter about the heating, but the gents are expected to leave the pub, take the lift down to the main concourse of the station and go and queue with the travelling public. This isn't on. The good points? A great selection of wines and beers (including a Betjeman Ale, specially brewed by Sharp's of Cornwall), tasty food (the main menu isn't in place yet so it's pies, burgers and pasta). The staff are attentive, maybe a little too attentive, but I'm sure that'll wear off as it gets busier. We'll be back very soon to check up on it. Maybe just have a half though: it's a long walk to those toilets.

Seems to have gents now - they're roughly behind the blue arch at the back of the picture, either go through that door, or walk all the way round inside past the dining bit. Order at the inside bar if you want a choice of ale.
only one comment, so far on this pub - why not add your own?
