picture of 5 TunsIf we had to go to a pub in an airport - Terminal 5 in this case - we'd hope that it was owned by Geronimo Inns, who have already colonised two other terminals at Heathrow. Spending time in airports isn't everyone's idea of a good time, but thankfully the 5 Tuns does a decent enough job of things. Dominated by a large central bar they have managed to create distinct areas in this otherwise smallish space, with a mix of high-level seating, normal chairs and tables, and even a couple of couches. A striking London skyscape mural successfully distracts from the fact that there are no windows and a bland view out the front. You'll find a pretty good choice of lager, ale and wine, while the food was reasonably priced (burger £8.45, Shepherd's Pie £7.95). Saying that, we did wonder whether prices might have been higher if they'd been catering to the captive audience on the other side of passport control. So, overall, not a bad place, but the three pint rating needs to be taken into context, based on it's location, the relative dearth of good competition and the transient nature of the customers.
