how to find it:
Aldbury is a couple of kilometres from Tring railway station, along Station Road. A sign next to the village pond will direct you to the pub.
Aldbury is a picture postcard English village. With a duck pond, quaint cottages and a tiny post office it could easily be 1950 here, save for the cars. And any village such as this has to have an olde worlde pub to make the picture complete. Of the two on offer the Valiant Trooper is arguably the more traditional. Tiny doorways, heavy wooden beams and two separate rooms add up to make a genuine and cosy experience. There's an extensive and interesting food menu alongside four ales, two of which were - quite rightly - from the nearby Tring brewery. Service was friendly and lively, but it was a slight shame that the owners were too engrossed with discussing the minutiae of their travel arrangements acknowledge us, making it understandably tricky to get served. That said, we enjoyed our visit here and will happily return if ever in the area again.
