picture of Hawley Arms
As famous now for the fire which almost destroyed the place as the 'slebs who frequent it, the Hawley Arms has risen from the ashes and reopened. Inside, however, things look much as they have done for the last couple of years and on the surface it would appear to be a decent pub, complete with a first floor loungey bar and a tiny roof terrace. A mere stones throw from Camden Market, it was always reliable for a post-shop drink, but it's increasing popularity means this isn't so much the case anymore. There's a breezy, chummy rather knowing approach to presentation which all seems carefully aimed at a young, hip demographic. We don't know whether the North London musical and media glitterati still flock here post-closure, but the aspirants of the aforementioned lifestyle still do, with more 80's sunglasses and manky hats on show than at a down market car boot sale. Indeed, the hanger-on quotient can reach fever pitch on weekends. Still, this is essentially a normal pub and if you time your visit right, you might just find some good ales, a fine jukebox and a bit of tasty food.
