picture of Hawley Arms
As famous now for the fire which almost destroyed the place as the 'slebs who frequent it, the Hawley Arms has risen from the ashes and reopened. Inside, however, things look much as they have done for the last couple of years and on the surface it would appear to be a decent pub, complete with a first floor loungey bar and a tiny roof terrace. A mere stones throw from Camden Market, it was always reliable for a post-shop drink, but its increasing popularity means this isn't so much the case anymore. There's a breezy, chummy rather knowing approach to presentation which all seems carefully aimed at a young, hip demographic. We don't know whether the North London musical and media glitterati still flock here post-closure, but the aspirants of the aforementioned lifestyle still do, with more 80's sunglasses and manky hats on show than at a down market car boot sale. Indeed, the hanger-on quotient can reach fever pitch on weekends. Still, this is essentially a normal pub and if you time your visit right, you might just find some good ales, a fine jukebox and a bit of tasty food.

this pub is crap! if you havent got a pair of skinny jeans on and long hair, they dont want to know you and look @ you like a piece of sh*t, the staff are rude ( we got told to fu*k off round to the lock tavern) and the beers are overpriced and the food wasn't cooked properly. All in all avoid like the plague.

Hi there, I was completely heartbroken over the recent Camden fire and wondered after the Hawley is restored that the proprietor would be so kind as to print off and keep a copy of this safely behind the bar for customers to enjoy. The blaze of sorrow While I look at all the burnt residue My heart lands on a thorn bed of disbelief The marketplace is now full of coal skeletons Yet I try my best to keep my chin up during the grief. While I witness the heaps of blistered debris Places of where I took pictures by the canal Reminiscences of birthday treats, meals in the rain Each one of the archways could tell many a tale. However this place has been a big aspect of my life And believe that it will emerge again from the cindered Was it a simple mishap? Or a proceed of a shadowy hand? Whatever it was, its magic will never be left as hindered. I can‘t help but feel sorrow, seeing the smoke scars The shocking ruin of North London’s most distinctive gown But I still hold onto the memories, its unmistakable vibrations Not to mention the emotions in the soul dedicated to Camden Town. © Daniel North

What a load of pretentios crap. This used to be a great pub before it got transformed into a hell hole for z listers trying to look cool. Always packed full of kids trying to hard. Rubbish and one of the managers has a real bad attitude.
