picture of Smiths Tavern
Lying at the edge of the Peak District sits the attractive little town of Ashbourne. In the heart of the town, the Smiths Tavern befits such an area quite well. The building appears to be of early Victorian vintage and inside its a long, thin pub with a cosy three room layout. The middle room, complete with the fireplace, seems to be the best of the lot and is where most of the customers were sat. As a pleasant surprise there's usually at least six ales on tap - most coming from the Marsden Brewery - which probably goes some way to explaining the numerous CAMRA awards. There is no shortage of pubs in the town, but the Smith's Tavern is certainly a worthwhile place to stop in for a pint.
