Victorian outside, predominately 1930s and later inside, the Southwark Tavern is a large pub prominently located on the periphery of Borough Market. The ground floor bar is a typical mix-and-match furniture affair, with a central bar serving a wide range of drink - with ales such as Old Hooky, Pride and Abbott on the hand pumps and a good few Continentals (eg Leffe, Hoegaarden, Fruli) on tap. There's wine and spirits (with a £10 per bottle deal on wines on Mondays) if beer doesn't take your fancy and plenty of food. The Debtors bar downstairs has all sorts of nooks and crannies where you can hide away for those more intimate moments and it's also the location for a popular quiz on Tuesdays. It usually gets pretty crowded immediately afterwork and you can also find it open early in the day (weekdays - it's not usually open at weekends) to cater for the market crowd.
