This one's changed hands a few times over the years, but now a wholesale renovation has produced a very different pub. It's now in the hands of the people who turned the Dartmouth Arms in Forest Hill from small-time local to swish gastro, and a similar transformation is in the offing here. "Stick to what you know" is surely the mantra in evidence, as the unmatched tables and chairs, sofas and eye-catching wallpaper, all make an appearance from the gastro refit handbook. Such carping aside, the Duke is an efficient and presentable enough pub, and certainly not one you'll feel out of place in if you're just here for a couple of drinks. With new flats in the process of being built opposite, there'll soon be a handy customer base to surely tap into (along with the annual London Marathon spectators). Not the most original pub you'll ever find then, but one very much in keeping with the transformation of the area. (New photo to come).

just popped in there this evening. The menu is lovely and plan to try it another time (who do you know serves gravilax- surely a scandinavian Labanite's influence?). wine list is pretty good by glass. decor is sparse in a good way ie no bookshelves full of arty books never read or shared), good colours and wallpaper, good lighting. All in all it is sleek without being soulless. Much love to Peter the barman who met us with the friendliest of smiles and chats. I have every confidence this is going to raise the profile of the area.

Lacks atmosphere, mix of locals and students, management changes quite frequently(3 in 6 month), no sky tv as the site states, overall disapointing
