The local brewer in Bridport is Palmers, and the vast majority of pubs in the area are tithed to it, offering nothing else by way of cask ale. That's not to say that Palmers (in the several varieties it comes in) is not a good pint, but just that after a couple of days in and around Bridport, one tires of it somewhat. Therefore, it was a huge delight to find this freehouse, tucked away off the eastern end of the main road and therefore largely tourist-free. There were 6 cask ales (2 of which were literally out of the cask behind the bar) and several real ciders to choose from. But the best part about this pub is the authentic skittle alley it has in a back room. All wooden (from the ball return 'mechanism' to the balls themselves) and marvellously low-tech, it is a great way to while away the afternoon (although we didn't really have a clue how to play it properly). Overall there is a lovely feel to this pub and we stayed for many more pints than we intended. Highly recommended.
