'Up and down the City Road, In and out the Eagle, That's the way the money goes. Pop! goes the weasel'. For those who like a bit of history, not many pubs can lay claim to being mentioned in a
nursery rhyme - a old cautionary tale about spending all your money on booze. Times have changed (perhaps) and although the Eagle was Islington-ised a while back, at heart its still a pub. The staff are friendly and there's a fine choice of drink - guests ales on the four hand pumps and plenty of fine Continental beers on tap. In addition, the ivy-covered garden is pretty where there are barbecues in Summer, when it's fine. There are quiz nights, "pie" days etc, newspapers etc, everything you need for a relaxing time down the pub. Although often eerily quiet on Saturdays - even with the all-day breakfast, the Eagle's location off Old Street roundabout means during the week its full with what can be an oil-and-water mix of local office workers, flat sharers, council estate dwellers and Hoxtonites. Overall, not bad at all.
