picture of The Eagle'Up and down the City Road, In and out the Eagle, That's the way the money goes. Pop! goes the weasel'. For those who like a bit of history, not many pubs can lay claim to being mentioned in a nursery rhyme - a old cautionary tale of spending all your money on booze. Times have changed (perhaps) and although the Eagle was Islington-ised a while back, at heart its still a pub. The staff are friendly and there's a fine choice of drink - guests ales on the hand pumps and plenty of fine Continental beers on tap. In addition, the ivy-covered garden is pretty and there're barbecues in Summer. Although often eerily quiet on Saturdays, its location off Old Street roundabout means during the week its full with what can be an oil-and-water mix of local office workers, flat sharers, council estate dwellers and Hoxtonites. Overall, not bad at all.
