how to find it:

It's a bit out of the way, so it's best to use a map - it's not far from the Hilton Hotel and the easiest (and most pleasant) route is the walk along the river from Rotherhithe. Surrey Quays: leave the station and head down Redriff Road, walk for about 10 minutes or so and you'll get to the junction with Rotherhithe Street on the right, turn down Rotherhithe Street and follow it round for a while until you see the pub on your right. Rotherhithe: leave tube turn left and head to the river, follow the road around for about 15 minutes and you'll come to it just before the Hilton Hotel, on your left.

picture of Blacksmiths ArmsThis is a fine local and has served the area very well over the years. It hasn't been affected too much by the influx of people filling the many developments in the surrounding area over the last few years, although the pub has edged a little more upmarket. This Tudorbethan pub has a nice oak-panelled 1930s interior, which hasn't been messed about with too much, simply spruced up, giving it a clubby, comfortable air. It's pretty relaxed during the week, though it does end up picking up refugees from the nearby Hilton; it does get rather busier at the weekend, although it can be pretty much a local affair. There's a good range of well-kept Fuller's ales on offer on the hand pumps, with a pretty reasonable wine-list, for those who aren't into pints. And, all that's accompanied by an extensive Thai menu and some traditional pub grub.
