how to find it:

From Leicester Square: Take the Covent Garden exit from the station and turn right into St. Martins Lane. When you get to William IV Street, turn left and the pub should be visible on the next corner. From Covent Garden: Head straight through the market and go down Southampton Street. Turn right at Maiden Street and follow it around until it becomes Chandos Place. Pub should be visible ahead. From Charing Cross: Leave the station by the main entrance in the Strand and cross over. William IV Street is straight ahead, so bear left and you should be able to see the pub ahead.

picture of HarpGiven that drinking real ale in the middle of London can often result in a Wetherspoon's experience, this little freehouse so close to Trafalgar Square comes as something of a surprise. The regular ales are Timothy Taylor Landlord, Harvey's and Black Sheep, with two guest beers - and some powerful ciders - also on offer. The pub's tasty sausage (there are several varieties to choose from) sandwiches do the business too. This one fills up most evenings but if you can find a seat, or catch it at a quieter time, we recommend a visit. Keep an eye out for the oil paintings - the one of a young James Mason is especially fine.
