how to find it:

From Leicester Square: Take the Covent Garden exit from the station and turn right into St. Martins Lane. turn left down New Row the right down Bedfordbury -the pub is about halfway down on the right. From Covent Garden: turn right and walk towards the market, when you get to the market turn right again and walk along King Street take the left hand turn down Bedfordbury. From Charing Cross: Leave the station by the main entrance in the Strand and cross over. William IV Street is straight ahead, so bear left and then turn right up Bedfordbury.

For as long as we can remember the pub on this site has usually been crowded, so much so, that on the previous two occasions when we attempted to drink here, we left still thirsty and with our wallets unmolested. So when we happened by and found the bar accessible, we thought we'd check to see what all the fuss was about. What you find is a small, one-roomed bar, decorated as brightly inside as the pub is outside, serving a couple of real ales on hand pumps (Adnams and Young's), a pretty standard Thai menu (including a takeaway) and a 42" plasma screen over the door showing Sky Sports. The beer was OK, the service OK (once we'd got their attention) but we we didn't get to try the food. The clientele was overwhelmingly blokey and seemed mostly interested in the Euro footy on the telly. The root of this pub's appeal is still a mystery to us, perhaps it's a testosterone thing, but if we could bottle it and sell it, we'd make a fortune.
