Formerly the Mucky Duck, a remnant of old Fleet Street, this smart venue spreads over two levels. The 'pub' occupies the ground floor, and offers a wide range of regular beers including Lowenbrau, Red Stripe and San Miguel, as well as guest beers (on our visit we delighted the barman by asking for a pint of Brains) a wide range of wines, and a fine array of spirits to a crowd more relaxed than the usual city types. There is a separate food menu for the pub, but fear not. You can tuck into a Pint O'Prawns or indeed a pig's cheek should you so desire. The upper level - the Dining room - features a mirrored ceiling of the type last seen reflecting Oliver Tobias and Joan Collins, and is very much more of a restaurant than a gastropub. However, the dual functionality works, and the place is already proving popular with the local fringe-of-the-city crowd. The staff clear the pub of some tables at the end of the business day in order to make the place feel less formal, so if you do see some furniture disappearing into a hole in the floor, panic not.
