picture of Golden Fleece
The name comes from the Hope Diamond purported to have been cut by local jewelers from a larger stone that hung in the Order of the Golden Fleece about the neck of Louis XIV and which was pinched during the revolution. The pub signs depict the mythical Jason getting the fleece out of the tree. A large and likable city pub within which gets very busy at lunchtimes and on weekday evenings. Multilevel seating area around a central bar - competent at food, beer and bar keeping, as one would expect from Greene King. There isn't a great deal to get excited about here although it is still a proper boozer and not yet a wine bar. It would make it into a St. Paul's to Bank pub crawl, but the proximity of Williamsons and Ye Olde Watling probably keeps this as a two pinter .
