how to find it:

Not an easy one to find, this pub. From the Angel tube head up Upper Street and then fork right onto Essex Road. Walk along Essex Road for a while and turn right down Packington Street. Walk along Packington Street and you'll soon get to Prebend Street where you should see the pub in front of you. It should take about 10-15 minutes to walk.

picture of Duchess of KentA real local for local people, in an area where reality is a rare commodity. Nothing special on the booze front (a couple of beers on the hand pumps), but the service is polite and friendly. Friendly enough, but more comfortable with the regulars. However, this place does have one of our weaknesses - a tropical fish tank, magic. And you can't fail to warm to a hostelry which sports the following sign: "No kids admitted after 4pm. Not even nice ones".
