picture of Horniman at HaysHornimans is a huge pub built in a refurbished wharf renamed Hays Galleria. It's quite picturesque in an Olde Worlde industrial way and consequently captures a lot of the tourists passing on the way to Tower Bridge or the Globe. The pub is large and sprawls over the ground floor of one side of the wharf on the riverside. It's all been done up in a tiled, Victoriana-Turkish bath style which doesn't quite convince you that it's for real (which it isn't). However, the pub and its surrounding area manage to accommodate the crowds without feeling too stretched so it doesn't get too uncomfortable, although Fridays are pretty manic. It has two extra areas, the downstairs Wharfside Cellar Bar and the upstairs Mezzanine for dining, along with a spot outside with views of the Thames. Service can be slow at busy times, resulting in a thirsty wait; at least the range of drink is solid, with us counting five ales on tap. If you can find it during a quiet moment, it's worth popping in when you're passing it on the way to the nearby tourist attractions.
