Tucked away, in a quiet spot, quite close to Great Portland Street tube station, the Masons Arms is a smart, well-kept pub. The beer on the three hand pumps is excellent, there's a good range of other beers, wines and spirits and there's decent (and pretty cheap) Thai food if you're feeling peckish. It can be quiet here in the afternoon, but things pick up in the evening, when people from the surrounding offices, or on their way out for an evening on the town, pop in and meet up for a pint and a chat. The service is friendly, polite and attentive and there are usually plenty of staff on hand to cope with the demand, when there's a rush - which happens periodically. We've known The Mason's Arms for a good long time and it's been a steadfast favourite. It's a pub that reliably goes about its business, without fuss or fanfare, providing drink and food for anyone and everyone in smart, well-maintained, relaxed surroundings. A simple formula and a template you think many would follow, but, alas, it's something that's all too rare to find.
