A change of name for this pub and, in line with Young's current programme of refurbishing their pubs, the TV and the fruit machine have made way for rather more plush furnishings. Added to the original tilework on the wall of the pub, the redecoration makes for a smart and decorous one-roomed pub. The problem, alas, is the upgrade has slightly taken away the character of this one: the pub's promotional literature waxes lyrical on how it once attracted rakes of the quality of Richard Harris and Oliver Reed; but now we get the impression that the rather formal feel of this one now isn't aimed at too many modern day hellraisers. If the music played in a pub suggests its personality, then the fact that the moderate tinklings of Jamie Cullum were being aired on our visit gives you a fair indication of how this pub is pitching itself.
