picture of Florist
Numbering among its neighbours the London Buddhist Centre, a centre for Tibetan Art and a long standing vegetarian cafe, it's no surprise that this old local boozer got made over a good while ago now . Whilst it's not as painstakingly trendy as the bars a mile or so to the west, the Florist sticks to the standard bare floorboards and weathered leather furniture look, interspersed with some original features. It's busier and noisier, in the evening though, usually with someone having a go behind the DJ decks. Shame then that the choices behind the bar don't greatly inspire - it's the usual lager-y suspects plus an ale or two on the hand pumps, though as the place makes a fuss about its cocktails we perhaps should have opted for one of them. As trendy, rejigged East End pubs go (and despite the often rather garrulous clientele), The Florist is not a bad pub at all.

generally this is a great boozer. can get spectacularly busy though. last visit was somewhat brief as, although it wasn't as busy as i have seen it (i got to the bar easily enough), and although there were three members of staff working (all somehow avoiding the death trap into the cellar), i got bored and left before anyone looked like serving me. fled to the Camel around the corner. followed by half of the people stood at the bar. clearly i wasn't the only one struggling that night. won't right it off just yet.
