how to find it:

Not very near anything at all, Dalston Kingsland is the nearest train station. Exit right, walk down Kingsland High Road for about 5 minutes. Third on the right should be Englefield Road and the Talbot is a couple of minutes down on the right, on the corner with Mortimer Road. Number 67 is the nearest bus service.

picture of Talbot
The Talbot is one of the later instalments in this mini-chain of five pubs whose aim in life seems to be to find obscure places in or near Hackney and make them successful, trendy boozers. This one, sadly, one of the weaker of the bunch, with a sad two pint rating, earned in some measure by an atmosphere just a little too forced for our liking - some of the younger drinkers gave the impression that they were atop some elevated social platform from which they could look down at people in less fashionable clothing. Like the others in the chain, there's an understated mix of wooden tables and couches, exposed brickwork and a dark green exterior. Cocktails and an extensive wine list are available to cater for the upmarket De Beauvoir residents and food is prominently displayed. Considering the area, the burger comes in at £9 and 'brunch breakfast' £8; at that price they'd better be fantastic. The only clue to the pub's old incarnation was the one lone old man sitting in the corner; he probably couldn't believe what had happened to the place.
